  • This afternoon I grabbed a few moments for some Pitch Black stitches while waiting on a friend who I drove to a medical procedure. I'm making a simple burglar toque with a folded brim and very much enjoying the mindless rhythm of 1x1 ribbing. This colour is my darkest and most solid black, dyed in a cold, acidless bath to ensure maximal, almost-solid dye uptake. The bath gets warmed slowly over time, and as the dye particles adhere to the wool, the water clears, and then the citric acid joins the party to set the colour before it all goes for a final steam bath. Pitch Black is mostly solid with very little contrast and just a minor shift in the saturation or tone here and there. The yarn works up as a solid black with just enough transition in tone to tell the story of its hand dyed origin. Speaking of loveliness and thrifting, meet Antiquity, a colour story reminiscent of the worn, weathered pages of well-read vintage books and the inside pockets of vinyl record sleeves. Antiquity is a neutral, pale, silvery and sandy cream-white, peppered with undertones of weathered driftwood and bone. The colour flows in delicate layers like a water colour painting, working up with minimal contrast and preserving stitch definition and stripes. Antiquity was designed to pair beautifully with virtually anything, especially earth tones and is currently listed in superwash merino 4 ply DK and worsted weight.   • I haven't been knitting much these days, the creative spark has been eluding me for a while and I just haven't felt the groove. Thankfully new colour stories got me a little motivated to get back to stitching and I'm pretty pleased about it. Disco Light Show is looking lovely in 1x1 ribbing is it not? It's like a more saturated version of Black Pearl but with less ghostly fog and more intense pops of rainbow stage lights. This is the start of a simple toque with a doubled brim and I'm feeling pretty pleased with how it's coming together!
