This mystery swatch was knit from a colour story that is a vibrant rainbow reflected and nestled in concrete and asphalt grey undertones.   • Happy Saturday friends! We're hoping to enjoy some peaceful moments of stitching in lovely rays of sunshine this fine spring day. Speaking of lovely, this one of a kind handspun skein of self-striping yarn is a jewel toned dream of teal, emerald, purple and magenta we listed recently. Named "Mermaid Vibes" for the magical deep sea blues and greens, the colours of this sport/fingering weight superwash merino yarn are arranged in a way that combines repeating colours of both plies of the yarn to create a stripey effect. Hand spun yarns are a labour of love, hours of work dyeing the fibre, preparing the fluff for spinning, spinning the single plies, spinning the plies together, winding the yarn by hand, rinsing and setting the twist. Because of the forever taking process of making these yarns, they will be available sparingly and will always be one of a kind. This skein has a slight thick and thin quality, flowing between a sport and fingering weight, a delightful, organic representation of the imperfection of its human origin. This new colour story is a vapourwave dream of pools of fevered magenta, hot grape, purple and deep royal blueish purple dancing with each other over a sea of cool bubblegum pink.   • Happy Saturday friends! We hope you are doing well this first day of April, and that not too many pranks are headed your way. On this day we feature Galloping Goose, a colour story inspired by the delightful family walks we took along Victoria’s Galloping Goose trail. This colourway captures the icy cool teal of glass insulators we hunted along the trail and the ashen, earthy browns of the weathered wooden telegraph poles. Many of the old poles that ran along the rail line are still there in various broken states and glass insulators (usually broken) can often be found at the base if one looks hard enough. Galloping Goose is currently listed in fingering weight yarns, superwash merino with nylon as well as BFL (a breed of sheep with a more golden fleece with longer fibers that provide strength and resistance to pilling) with nylon.   • This afternoon I grabbed a few moments for some Pitch Black stitches while waiting on a friend who I drove to a medical procedure. I'm making a simple burglar toque with a folded brim and very much enjoying the mindless rhythm of 1x1 ribbing. This colour is my darkest and most solid black, dyed in a cold, acidless bath to ensure maximal, almost-solid dye uptake. The bath gets warmed slowly over time, and as the dye particles adhere to the wool, the water clears, and then the citric acid joins the party to set the colour before it all goes for a final steam bath. Pitch Black is mostly solid with very little contrast and just a minor shift in the saturation or tone here and there. The yarn works up as a solid black with just enough transition in tone to tell the story of its hand dyed origin.
